Aysha Learmonth files bankruptcy: Salims ex falls on hard times

SALIM Mehajer’s estranged wife has filed for bankruptcy over $2.15 million worth of debt owed by a string of the imprisoned property developer’s companies.

According to The Australian, bankruptcy filings show Aysha Learmonth owed money to five creditors, including $1.93m to NAB and $64,144 to car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.

Ms Learmonth took over as director of Mehajer’s companies when he was banned from managing them in 2015. She also acted as guarantor for loans made to the companies, which caused her to file for bankruptcy on August 27, according to Australian Financial Security Authority documents.

She will automatically be discharged from bankruptcy in three years, should no objections be filed, The Australian reports.

Ms Learmonth and Mehajer separated in 2016 soon after their lavish Sydney wedding, which controversially shut down streets in the city’s west.

Mehajer was later found guilty of intimidating his ex-wife when he emailed and messaged her in 2017. Earlier this year, a magistrate dismissed another charge of contravening an apprehended violence order, as the prosecution had not proven the AVO was served on Mehajer and that he knew its conditions.

Mehajer, formerly the deputy mayor of Auburn in Sydney’s west, was convicted of electoral fraud in June this year and sentenced to at least 11 months behind bars for rigging a council election.

A Sydney magistrate previously found he acted in a “joint criminal enterprise” with his sister Fatima to fix the 2012 Auburn Council elections. The court found they submitted faked online applications to the Australian Electoral Commission, which falsely showed family members lived in the electorate so they could vote for Mehajer. That election led to him becoming the deputy mayor.
